How do I create a syllabus using cut and paste from a document?

You must be a site administrator (instructor, ta, or maintain) to add a syllabus to a course or project site.

Go to your course.

  1. Navigate to your course site: In My Workspace (1) click on the relevant semester (2) in 'Current Courses' and select your course.

    If you don't see it there, you may not be listed as the official instructor for the course.  If you are enrolled in many course sites, you can also try clicking on the "My Active Sites" button to see if your site is listed there.

  1. In your site, from the left-hand menu bar, click Syllabus (3).

  1. At the top of the syllabus page, click Create/Edit (4).

  1. At the top of the syllabus page, click Add (5).

Enter Syllabus Title and Text

  1. Enter a title for your syllabus item (6).

  2. Enter your content into the text box. You can copy and paste text from another file (e.g., an HTML file or a Word document).  

    Note: To avoid formatting errors when copying from a Word document, click the Paste from Word button and paste your text into the window that pops up. (7)

  1. Make sure to leave the visibility setting to 'Public' or else your syllabus will not be viewable.

  1. When you have finished adding your syllabus item, click Post to post it to your site.

  1. If your site has not been published yet, you will get a message about doing so. It is necessary to publish your site so that students can see it- even if you uploaded a syllabus, it will not be visible unless the site is published. Click the Publish this site button OR click the Publish Now box in the upper left corner to do so.
